Strategic sectors for Euroinnova Navarra

The Euroinnova Navarra programme, which has an implementation period of 24 months, was set up with the aim of contributing to the European objective of achieving an investment level of 3% of GDP in R&D. Up to 31 December 2007 this new programme will work on design and experimentation and will transfer innovative methodology that will simultaneously promote sectoral and regional integration and the networking on a European level of all the stakeholders involved the regional innovation system, e.g. Public Administration, Knowledge Centres and Companies, thereby contributing to sustainable development and a better quality of life for the people of Navarre.

The strategic theme that will focus the activity of Euroinnova Navarra is that of a regional economy based on knowledge and technological innovation. The choice of this theme is due to two main reasons:

  • The need to close the investment gap in R&D between Navarre and the European average, and make progress towards the European objective of 3% in 2010, as a guarantee for the sustainable competitiveness of the region.
  • The existence of a Regional R&D+I strategy, outlined in the 2nd Technology Plan for Navarre (2004-2007), which will focus the efforts of regional policymaking over the next few years.

This framework will aim at achieving a number of goals and actions, among them:

  • Trying out innovative methodologies and initiatives that involve a high element of risk, with a view to strengthening the region’s competitiveness.
  • Strengthening a regional environment that fosters innovation, based on cooperation, and obtaining synergies between all stakeholders within a regional and European context.
